Cartoon Saloon

A world renowned animation studio with five Academy Award and two Golden Globe nominations and many other award wins.

Cartoon Saloon, was established in 1999 by Paul Young, Tomm Moore, and Nora Twomey. Located in Kilkenny, Ireland, the studio produces brave and beautiful shorts, feature films, and TV series. Cartoon Saloon is the founder and host of Kilkenny Animated, an annual festival of visual storytelling incorporating exhibitions, talks and performances celebrating the creativity of the animation craft.

In 2024, Cartoon Saloon will be celebrating its 25th anniversary with exciting events planned throughout the year to mark this special occasion.


Studio Projects:

- The Secret of Kells, was nominated for an Academy Award. It's a 2009 animated fantasy drama film about the making of the Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript from the 9th century

-Song of the Sea, first animated feature to win Best Picture at the Irish IFTA Academy awards. It's a 2014 animated fantasy film that follows the story of a 10-year-old Irish boy named Ben, who discovers that his mute sister Saoirse is a selkie.

-The Breadwinner was released in November 2017 to huge critical acclaim. It's an animated drama film based on the best-selling novel by Deborah Ellis. it follows an 11-year-old girl who lives in Kabul under the Taliban's Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan just as the War on Terror is beginning.

- WolfWalkers, also Golden Globe, Academy Award and BAFTA nominated and the studios second feature to win Best Picture at the 2021 Irish IFTA Academy Awards. It follows a young apprentice hunter and her father journey to Ireland to help wipe out the last wolf pack. But everything changes when she befriends a free-spirited girl from a mysterious tribe rumored to transform into wolves by night.
