Studio Projects:
-Amazing World of Gumball:
The Amazing World of Gumball was created by Ben Bocquelet. The first time we met Ben was in 2004 when he and Johannes Weiland just had started as juniors at studio aka, London. As a young director Ben tried to win pitches. But most of the time his ideas were dismissed. When he joined Cartoon Network Studios Europe in 2007 he based several of the series’ characters on rejected characters from his time at studio aka. The premise of The Amazing World of Gumball is a mixture of "family shows and school shows". In the first seaso Studio Soi set up the technical pipeline and the CGI elements. Starting with season 2 they also took care of the 2d inbetweening, rendering and compositing.
-Rico & Oskar:
Rico and Oskar are two boys living in Berlin. Both attend a special school where their student’s individual differences and special needs are addressed. Some people might call Rico and Oskar oddballs. But there is most certainly more to them. Andreas Steinhöfel wrote five books about Rico’s and Oskar’s adventures. They are already considered to be classics of German children’s book literature. In 2019, SAD ORIGAMI, Andreas’s own production company he runs together with his co-producer and co-writer Klaus Döring, approached Studio Soi to direct and animate five episodes of their series “Rico & Oskar” for German television.
-Torvald and the Fir Tree (short film):
Marcus Sauermann (scriptwriter) had already worked on the ZDF's show Siebenstein when Studio Soi was founded in 2003 . He introduced the studio to the editor and suggested that studio soi could take care of the visual part of his short film. This short is about Torvald, the smallest logger in the village. For Christmas, he decides to chop down the biggest Christmas tree of them all. As the big day draws closer, Torvald has made little progress and it looks like he and his wife may miss out on celebrating Christmas Eve. That is, until he has a brilliant idea. Working on that short led to a long working relationship with broadcaster ZDF.
