Polyester Studio

"Characters light the way forward."
Polyester, a Toronto-based animation studio, is the imagination studio where bold characters are born, refined, and elevated to inspire new myths.

Emotional connections drive engagement, and nothing breaks through advertising fatigue and distrust like great characters. Characters shine a light on all us, showing us our differences and our shared good alike. Characters increase our attachment to brands and products, because they are just like us.
Why the name Polyester?
There’s a sense of nostalgia with Polyester. It brings them back to our roots when their love of characters started. The late 70s and early 80s was a golden age of cereal advertising, toys that looked better than reality, and Saturday morning cartoons.
Studio Projects:
-University Hospital Foundation.(ad campaign):
This campaign needed to educate Albertans about UHF's important work in Cardiac care and Alzheimer's research and convey their vision of hope for the future. Polyester then created a hopeful and colourful reality that isn't yet defined. It is painterly and dream-like; while the story is not a reality yet, with help, it can be. It's a world immersed in colour and cel-animated fluid transitions to show the pain of losing your entire world and a future where medication can bring it all back.
-Toon Blast (game trailer):
Commissioned by the lovely people with the video game Toon Blast to make an animated trailer featuring the game’s hero characters. Polyester developed scripts and concepts, and proceeded to craft a Mad Max meets Dune animation with their hero characters, props, and icons, from the game. The film has over 1.5 million views in it’s first week.
-Weekend Characters:
Polyester wanted to introduce their new shop and characters with an animated video at the top of the Weekend Characters site. They anchored the characters in the neighbourhood they live in, Kensington Market. This showed off the surrounding area for the shop location and establish their new shop in the evolving neighbourhood.
