Moth Studio

"Our goal is to create vivid work that maintains a smart and distinct voice... "

Moth Studio was founded to share their love of storytelling, drawing, and filmmaking through animation. They set up shop in 2015 and have been crafting award winning animations from their studio in London ever since.

They are known for their perceptive and emotive storytelling with a strong emphasis on character and design as communication. They’re often drawn to complex and difficult subjects and take enjoyment from the challenge of portraying them in a playful and imaginative way. Every project that comes through their door has different demands, be that conceptually or artistically and their team can nurture it from concept to fruition.

Their commercial, commissioned and personal work has been celebrated at festivals worldwide, earning us multiple BAFTA nominations, an Annecy Cristal and D&AD pencil amongst other awards.

Studio Projects:

Desta- The Memories Between (Launch Trailer & In-Game Cinematics):
Moth Studio were approached by Ustwo Games to create a launch trailer and in-game cutscenes for their new turn-based strategy game; Desta: The Memories Between. They were given the brief to develop the in-game design language into a stripped-back and more minimalist style, which suited our natural inclinations. And naturally, a dodgeball game based around introspection and the value of self-reflection really piqued the studio's interest. With the action of the game taking place within a dream space, they wanted the trailer to reflect this with surrealism, action, and intrigue within a dynamic and twisting world. Like a wild fever dream, they mixed in-game symbolism, an unexpected but vibrant colour palette, and an infectious score by Mansur Brown to create a frenetic, kaleidoscopic music video-come trailer.

The Guardian- The Last Job on Earth:
Meet Alice, holder of the last recognisable job on Earth, trying to make sense of her role in an automated world. 'The Last Job on Earth' is a film produced in collaboration with the Guardian Sustainable Business section. In “the last job on Earth” animation, the worker Alice gets frustrated when the machine refuses to dispense her medicine. This animation demonstrates to us that as society becomes increasingly automated we may well reach a point where real time epidemiology will use sensors to assess our health and tell our worker: you’re likely to get sick tonight, we put some medicine into the AC system of your home.

Benji Davies- The Grotlyn:
Benji Davies is a picture book writer and artist. In his work he aims to capture how it feels to be a child. Moth Studio have collaborated with him before on previous book trailers and once again teamed up with the author, Benji Davies and composer Pierre O'Reilly to make this trailer for his children's book, 'The Grotlyn'.
