Fern.
"We make animation that sticks. "
Fern. is an Animation & Motion Design Studio that is equal parts craft and collaboration. Their work spans the full range of creative content, animation, and motion design: brand animation and motion graphics, 2D cel animation and illustration, narrative short films, music videos, interactive and experiential animation, and design systems. They work with brands, agencies, music artists, and nonprofits, from early creative strategy through final delivery, including art direction, storyboarding, character development, animation, and sound design.
Studio Projects:
Northened:
Northened is an original animated short film about growing up in the twilight of industrial Hamilton, Ontario. Two friends spend an endless, muggy summer exploring their neighborhood, where electrical towers dot the beach and factories loom high above them. As the heat thickens, strange and hallucinatory experiences take hold.
Transmute:
High up in an isolated tower, an odd alchemist's experiment to change basic metal to gold becomes unstable. Transmute is an original animated short film conceived around the theme of metamorphosis, nodding to the archaic alchemical pursuit of transmutation while using bold colors, clean shapes, and a distinctly modern visual language to tell a story that feels both ancient and immediate.
NCAA- The Now Era:
The Basement Agency brought Fern in to handle 2D animation and illustration for two of the NCAA's national broadcast campaigns. Each one tells a different story about what college sports really mean, from student-athlete support to sports betting awareness. The job was to build a visual world that could carry both: animated broadcast spots, social cutdowns, in-venue ads, print, radio, and a custom illustration system designed to travel across every touchpoint.
