2D, 3D, StopMotion – 137Ewes JANUARY FESTIVAL SPRINT
Inspired by winter recess sessions of many universities, 137 Ewes are welcoming WINTER INTERNS for the first time. They’ve learned from their past interns that a sense of completion is often the best feeling coming out of an internship. Hence, they are challenging you this winter to make a film with their characters that is film festival ready.
Note that this internship is very intensive, lasting the whole month of January; Think about your ability to commit before applying. Interns are expected to finish their films during this month. Absolutely no extension to the deadline.

INTERNSHIP Dates: January 1st (Thursday) – January 31st (Saturday), 2026; Can attend one hour kick off meeting on Monday, December 29th, 2025, 10am PST. Can attend finale presentations of all films on 10am Sunday February 1st, 2026.
STEPS:
- Verify that you are: Currently working on a BFA , MFA, or intensive training program in Handdrawn animation, 2D Animation, 3D Animation, Experimental Animation, and/or Stop-motion Animation.
- Ensure that you have a: Strong portfolio /reel to demonstrate your complete set of skills; contains most updated shots; and that the link to your portfolio is alive.

What you will do:
- Select from their characters – then using existing stories as points of inspiration, construct a short film between TWO to SEVEN minutes (Your choice based on the way you work and the type of story you are telling and how complex the animation is).
- Attend Dailies Monday, Wednesday, Friday
- Animate by hand or through digital software
- Plan beats, scenes, storyboards
- Construct keyframes
- Work on in-betweens
- Clean up animation
- Final Coloring
- Steps to procedural 3D animation, stop motion animation etc will have different steps accordingly.
- Finish animation by deadline (January 30th)
- Submit with them to a festival that they decide on before leaving the internship
Stipend:
- Winning stipend upon acceptance to the specified festival
Nationality / Location:
- Their internships are designed for learning, working with people across cultures, you can reside ANYWHERE.
- Applications outside of the USA are welcome, as long as you have conversational English capability to understand feedback and communicate your animation intentions.
Requirements
- Great understanding of animation timing, basic principles of animation
- Strong draftsmanship
- Understanding of the life of the LINE, how to animate lines
- Understanding of SHAPE, how to animate so that shapes move to communicate
- Thorough understanding of anatomy
- Great understanding of herbivores, four-legged locomotion, animal behaviors and/or passion to want to learn these areas (we are only at the tip of the iceberg to truly understand animals)
- Great understanding of various emotions and how to express them effectively
- Time Management ability to complete assignments on time
- Wild creativity to stretch your imagination
- Unique ability to pose characters (Action Poses, Move them in space)
- Effective at taking notes on feedback and implementing verbal, written, and/or draw-over feedback
