Storyboard Artist for YouTube Animation Channel

Remote
Level: Mid level
from 08 June

Job Description

Supaviews Media are building a new animated YouTube channel that brings mythology to life through entertaining, story-driven videos. Think Greek mythology, Norse legends, ancient gods, monsters, heroes, and epic battles—presented in a fun, engaging style for a broad audience. The goal is to create highly watchable animated videos that blend education, storytelling, humor, and cinematic visuals.

They’re currently assembling a small creative team and are looking for a talented Storyboard Artist to help shape the visual storytelling of the channel.

Expected workload: Approximately 1 video per month (~20 minutes) during the initial launch phase, with potential to scale as the channel grows.

What You’ll Do

As the Storyboard Artist, you will:

  • Read completed scripts and translate them into engaging visual sequences
  • Break scenes into shots, camera angles, compositions, and visual beats
  • Create rough storyboard panels that clearly communicate action, emotion, and timing
  • Design scene progression that improves pacing and viewer retention
  • Collaborate with the animator and art team to ensure scenes can be executed efficiently
  • Identify opportunities for visual humor, reveals, tension, and emotional storytelling
  • Help elevate the script through visual ideas—not simply illustrate what is written on the page

Visual Storytelling Style

They’re looking for a storyboard artist who thinks like a director, not just an illustrator.

The videos will rely on strong visual storytelling, cinematic shot selection, expressive character acting, and clear scene composition. The goal is not to create highly detailed artwork, but to design scenes that are engaging, readable, and animation-friendly.

They are aiming for a style similar to the Historically channel: (https://youtu.be/EHLI2WZUtXs?si=CAX2ooQfFin3v6Jc)

Strong candidates should be comfortable:

  • Translating scripts into compelling visual sequences
  • Choosing camera angles, framing, and shot progression
  • Creating expressive poses and facial reactions
  • Designing scenes around a single clear visual idea
  • Building suspense, comedy, reveals, and emotional moments through visuals
  • Balancing storytelling impact with animation efficiency
  • Thinking about pacing, retention, and audience engagement

The storyboard should function as a blueprint for the entire video, providing clear direction for the artists and animators who bring it to life.

Deliverables

For each video, you’ll create:

  • A complete storyboard covering the entire script
  • Scene-by-scene visual breakdowns
  • Camera notes and shot suggestions where appropriate
  • Clear visual direction for the animator and artists
  • Organized project files delivered on schedule
