After Effects Animators for Youtube Channel – Tale Foundry

Remote
Level: Junior-Mid level
from 01 August

Job Description

The creator of the youtube channel Tale Foundry are hiring! Tale Foundry is a tight-knit team of creatives who make videos about writing, storytelling, and fiction. They’re currently looking for Animators and Video Editors!

Animation Role:

They’re currently looking for animators who can take the art supplied by their team and bring it to life with motion!

The candidate must be skilled with  Adobe AFTER EFFECTS. They will not consider applicants who do not have lots of experience with this software. Proficiency with ADOBE PHOTOSHOP and ADOBE PREMIERE is not strictly required, but is a big plus.

This process entails:

  • Reviewing Direction: The first part of the process will involve reading through the script + directions provided by the project manager. You should have a strong understanding of the script, storyboards, and other direction before you begin.
  • Motion Graphics & Effects: The extent of the “animation” involved is really all just keyframe stuff. Tweens, rotation, transformation, etc. If there is frame-by-frame animation, you’ll be provided all the frames and you’ll just have to sequence them properly on the timeline. A good knowledge of what presets and effects exist in After Effects will help a lot. The Puppet tool is particularly useful, but they make liberal use of a wide variety of effects. NOTE: THIS IS NOT TRADITIONAL FRAME-BY-FRAME ANIMATION. IT IS MUCH, MUCH SIMPLER THAN THAT!
  • Camera Work: They do like their animators to make use of the 3D camera in After Effects to provide a little more dynamism to sequences. Nothing crazy, just make use of the ability to add a little zoom, pan, rotation, etc.
  • Delivery: You will hand off your animations to the Editor, who will then integrate them into the larger video. You will not be responsible for creating the videos yourself. You will not be adding music, voice, clips, or anything like that. Your only responsibility is to add motion graphics/effects to pre-existing visual assets.

Payment:

They currently pay $150 per video, including everything above. They offer 3 videos per month on average, which totals about to about $450/mo.

NOTE: This is not a full-time position! Expect less than 5hrs of work per project. They do not pay by the hour, so if a talented animator can do things faster than that and to the team’s satisfaction, they can certainly make more money here!
