Freelance 2D Character Animator for MYTH WATCH Proof of Concept

Job Description

Afterglow Studios is seeking a freelance 2D Character Animator to join the development of MYTH WATCH, an original cyberpunk animated series.

They are currently producing a short, polished proof-of-concept sequence that will be used to demonstrate the visual and emotional direction of the project ahead of a planned crowdfunding campaign.

MYTH WATCH is a cyberpunk heist story driven heavily by character emotion, relationships, psychological conflict, and cinematic storytelling. The project combines anime-inspired character design with neon environments, action, expressive performances, and atmospheric direction.

For the current proof-of-concept, they are especially interested in animators who are comfortable with character acting, facial expressions, subtle body language, cinematic staging, and dialogue-driven scenes.

The proposed sequence centers on a tense psychological conversation between two characters and will prioritize strong acting and emotional performance over large-scale action.

Responsibilities

• Animate 2D character performances based on storyboards, animatics, dialogue, and director notes
• Create expressive facial animation and believable body language
• Maintain character consistency throughout assigned shots
• Work collaboratively with the director and other artists
• Respond to feedback and revisions throughout production
• Contribute creatively while maintaining the established visual direction of the project

What They’re Looking For

• Strong 2D animation portfolio or demo reel
• Experience with character acting and dialogue scenes
• Understanding of timing, posing, expressions, and visual storytelling
• Ability to work remotely and communicate consistently
• Anime-inspired animation experience is highly appreciated
• Experience with cyberpunk, sci-fi, action, compositing, or effects is a plus

Project Status
This is currently a paid freelance proof-of-concept assignment, not a full-season production position. The proof of concept is being developed ahead of crowdfunding for the larger series.
